No Expectations at Perkinstock

Last night at the Perkinstock festival in northern Maine I was fortunate enough to sit in with the amazing Shannon Whitworth playing some tunes from her new record No Expectations. Go buy her new album! Outstanding production, beautiful tunes and playing throughout. And also playing was the always dope guitarist John Stickley, the superlative bassist Barrett Smith and the ever-present Charlie Rose on cello and mandolin. I actually think Charlie has cloned himself to be playing 5 gigs at once, on several continents and coasts.

Review at JazzMando.com

From JazzMando.com comes a review of Ten Thousand Leaves

Jake Schepps is easily labeled a progressive banjo player. The term is hardly oxymoronic anymore, with trailblazers such as indefatigably versatile Bela Fleck and jazzer Pat Cloud, there is already a new standard credibility of the instrument breaking the bounds of banjo convention, producing amazing literature beyond folk/hillbilly or "swamp" music. Schepps' compositional skills alone demonstrate this propensity, but we enjoy his playing as well.
